443rd Civil Affairs Battalion to be welcomed home

They were deployed in November of 2007 to the war zone in Iraq.

Sixteen months later the men and women of the U.S. Army Reserve 443rd Civil Affairs Battalion in Warwick will gather once again as they are honored Sunday in a welcome home Warrior-Citizen ceremony at 10 a.m. in Grand Ballroom of the Crowne Plaza Hotel on 801 Greenwich Ave. in Warwick.

Among those paying tribute to the soldiers are United States Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Rhode Island National Guard Major General Robert T. Bray and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian.

Elements of the 443rd supported the 1st Armored Division and Task Force Iron in northerm Iraq during their deployment, serving in such areas as public works, preventative medicine, law and public safety. During the deployment, more than 350 soldiers, sailors and airmen served under the battalion leadership.

The welcome home ceremony is free and open to the public.
