PORTSMOUTH, R.I. -- Assembly of the town's 1.5 megawatt wind tower won't be finished until next week. But the nacelle, which houses the turbine, has been held up in Massachusetts and won't be able to move until early next week, according to Richard Talipsky, chairman of the Portsmouth Economic Development Committee. The committee is a group of volunteers who have coordinated the $3-million project. Talipsky said a new date for the final assembly has not yet been set. Two of the three sections of the tower are already standing on the grounds of Portsmouth High School. But Talipsky has said that the third tower section cannot be installed without the nacelle. The turbine will be the tallest structure on Aquidneck Island, about as tall as the Westin Providence hotel in downtown Providence, dwarfing another nearby wind tower on the grounds of Portsmouth Abbey. But completion of the construction project was pushed back to the weekend because of weather-related delays in shipping the turbine, according to Richard W. Talipsky, chairman of the Portsmouth Economic Development Committee, a group of volunteers who have coordinated the $3-million project. CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. March is historically the month with the most wind ! Why are they up on top of a hill trying to put up a 400 foot commercial wind turbine next to power lines with a crane the same size.Today is March 1,2009 a major Northeastern storm with high winds is predicted. These people do not know what they doing. This is the worst time of the year to install commercial wind turbines. This is a perfect example of how people get hurt with poor setbacks from these monsters.
