| Update: Senate leaders, Carcieri meet on stimulus »
The late monologist Spalding Gray, who grew up in Barrington, RI, has more to say. And Gray's companion, Kathleen Russo is giving you the opportunity to hear him in: Spalding Gray: Stories Left to Tell, a new show which opens tonight at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston and runs through Sunday. Russo has arranged to have others read the writings of Gray, who's best known for Swimming to Cambodia, Gray's Anatomy and Monster in a Box. The show draws upon Gray's previously performed monologues works as well as his previously unpublicized journals. Each performance involves four ensemble readers and a one guest reader, one of whom is Vincent "Buddy" Cianci, Providence's former mayor turned talk-show host on WPRO radio. "Because Spalding was from Rhode Island and some of the places are in Rhode Island, we wanted someone to represent Rhode Island," said David Henry, ICA's director of programs. "Buddy Cianci is identified with Rhode Island, he supports the arts and he's quite a performer." The other guest readers are novelist Claire Messud, Gideon Lester, director of American Repertory Theatre, and radio host Christopher Lydon. Gray, who was the brother of Channing Gray, an arts writer for The Providence Journal, died in January of 2004, of an apparent suicide after a long period of depression., Gray's body was found in New York's East River. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. tonight, tomorrow and Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday. Cianci is reading on Saturday night. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and students. The ICA is located at 100 Northern Ave., Boston. For reservations or more information, call (617) 478-3103 or visit www.icaboston.org. |
