The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority will use some of the money that will come to it under the federal economic stimulus program to start replacing its aging fleet with hybrid buses, officials said. Mark Therrien, the authority's assistant general manager, said that, though expensive, the hybrids pay off in better mileage and less pollution.
