Potential buyer tours Wyatt Detention Facility

CENTRAL FALLS -- Two representatives from the Corrections Corporation of America toured the Donald W. Wyatt Detention Facility this afternoon to determine whether the Nashville-Tenn. based private prison contractor is interested in buying the jail that houses federal prisoners.

The officials joined Mayor Charles D. Moreau, Bruce Corrigan, vice chairman of the Central Falls Detention Facility Corp. and Warden Wayne Salisbury on the walk through the 700-plus bed jail. The tour began at 2 p.m. and took more than two hours.

Moreau told the Journal on Tuesday that the city would consider selling or leasing the jail if the deal proved to be a good deal for taxpayers.

In recent weeks, Anthony Ventetuolo Jr., the jail's executive director and his real estate management firm, Avcorr Management of Warwick, have come under fire. Moreau has questioned Ventetuolo's salary -- $230,575 and incentive bonus of mor than $164,000 -- that he was slated to be paid for his work last year.

Moreau also has questioned why Avcorr and several other consulting firms were paid $579,000 last year, about $50,000 more that the city was paid for having the jail within city limits.
