PAWTUCKET, R.I. -- A 27-year-old man was arraigned on charges of first-degree child abuse Thursday after Hasbro Children's Hospital reported that his six-month-old boy suffered injuries consistent with shaken baby syndrome, the police said today. The baby's father, Eric Bobola, of 118 Slater St., was released after posting bail set at $25,000 with surety, Rosciti said. He was issued an order prohibiting contact with his son. On Tuesday at around 10 p.m., according to the police, Bobola took the baby out of the car and brought him into the couple's house. When his wife, Erika Tyler, walked into the house she noticed something was wrong with the baby's breathing, the police said. She immediately called 911. The case is being investigated by the Pawtucket Police Detective Bureau and the Rhode Island Department of Children, Youth and Families, according to Rosciti. Police would not release the report on the incident, citing the ongoing investigation. Ryan is the couple's only child, according to Rosciti. |
