PROVIDENCE -- Anthony M. "The Saint'' St. Laurent Sr., a longtime capo regime in the Patriarca crime family, was charged today with plottiing to kill a fellow mobster, Robert P. "Bobby'' Deluca Sr.

The criminal complaint was unsealed today in U.S. District Court and it charges St. Laurent with solicitation to commit a crime of violence, to wit: murder-for-hire. The mobster, who is serving a federal prison sentence for extortion in Fort Devens, Mass., is scheduled to be formally charged on Monday through a video-conferencing setup. Magistrate Judge David Martin will handle the proceeding.

The murder-for-hire plot dates to 2006, when St. Laurent was running an extortion ring from his home at 2 Rotary Drive in Johnston. In January 2007, St. Laurent, who was confined to a wheelchair and has a litany of health problems, was sentenced to five years in prison. Now, two years later, he faces the murder-for-hire charge that could keep him locked up for the rest of his life.

DeLuca, also a capo regime in the Patriarca, spent more than 10 years in federal prison for extortion. Since his release, he has worked in the kitchen of the Sidebar restaurant, which is owned by Artin H. Coloian, a lawyer and former top aide to ex-Providence Mayor Vincent A. Cianci Jr.
