A former prison inmate, wanted on charges of hundreds of dollars of electronic tooth brushes at Shaw's markets in Cranston and Johnston, was charged with felony shoplifting yesterday after being nabbed by North Providence police.
Joseph R. Doucette, 30, who had addresses in Providence, Johnston and Westerly, was picked up by a North Providence police officer responding to a family disturbance at 5 Richard Rd. The officer, Thomas L. Jones, said that while at the residence he observed a man who identified himself as Doucette, who was wanted on three active warrants.
Johnston police said they were able to link Doucette to theft of five electronic tooth brushes, valued at $520, from the Shaw's market on Hartford Avenue in Johnston on Jan. 22 after reviewing the store's surveillance tapes and comparing his photo to prison photos and a photo taken last month by Providence police.
They said Doucette also resembled a suspect wanted in the thelft of several electronic toothbrushes from the Shaw's market at Chapel View, Cranston.
Doucette was appeared before District Court Judge Jeanne Lafazia, who ordered him held on $10,000 bail as a District Court and Superior Court parole violator. His Superior Court arraignment is scheduled for April 14.
