A leader of Amnesty International and the professor who wrote the Bush Administration's "Torture Memo" will speak today at 4 p.m. at Brown University. Larry Cox, executive director of Amnesty International USA and a veteran human rights advocate, and John Yoo, a professor at the University of California at Berkley and a former legal adviser to President Bush who helped write the administration's policy on torture, will present their perspectives on the question: "Are there universal human rights, and how far should we go to protect them?" The event is part of the Janus Forum, a campus initiative "designed to encourage active thought, debate, and discussion around political ideas,'' said a news release from Brown. The forum will be held in the Salomon Center for Teaching, De Ciccio Family Auditorium, Room 101 on Brown's main green. |
