One year ago today: Sakonnet Vineyards is preserved for agricultural use forever, thanks to a deal announced by the Little Compton Agricultural Conservancy Trust.

5 years ago today: A Baptist minister and peace activist from Cuba, scheduled to speak at the University of Rhode Island, is denied a visa by the U.S. State Department and cannot enter the country.

25 years ago today: An Amtrak train traveling at 90 miles an hour rips through a stalled car in North Kingstown and sends chunks flying against a house. Some of the wreckage is dragged for a mile.
