PROVIDENCE -- The Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs is warning Rhode Island residents about an unauthorized fundraising organization that is making calls to solicit support for a statewide fundraising drive. The Neighborhood Outreach of Brooklyn, New York, has been calling state residents and claiming to represent the Fire Fighter Support Foundation of Rhode Island. The calls are allegedly in support of local firefighters, EMTs and other public safety entities. The Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs says that this group is not affiliated with any fire department in Rhode Island and recommends that residents call their local police department if they are contacted. The Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs is a professional organization dedicated to improving efficiency, preparedness and emergency response time, to educating the public about fire safety and to providing a support system for Rhode Island fire chiefs, firefighters and emergency medical technicians in times of crisis. |
