In a break with the past, five winning actors from the past each introduced one of this year's nominees. It seems like a good idea, very classy and it gives both the nominees and past winners their due.

However, instead of showing clips of the nominees in their films, as has been done in the past, they went with extended introductions. Many of those clips have been shown again and again on TV talk shows which attracted the stars in hopes of bolstering visibility among nominees.

In one of the most touching moments of the Awards telecast, the Oscar was accepted by Ledger's father, mother and sister, up from Down Under in emotional appearances. His father accepted the Oscar and found the moment among Hollywood's glitterati "ever so humbling'' while his mother was "overwhelmed'' by the honor.
