By Channing Gray As two elegant Cambodian dancers glided about the lobby of the Providence Performing Arts Center, officials from the FirstWorks performance series this morning announced the kickoff of an ambitious educational program involving musicians from the Silk Road Ensemble, the group of world musicians assembled by acclaimed cellist Yo-Yo Ma a decade ago. Members of the group from as far away as China will visit a half-dozen schools in Providence, Pawtucket, Central Falls and Woonsocket during the next three months starting Wednesday, talking about their homeland and demonstrating some of their native instruments. The ensemble, which has been headquartered at the Rhode Island School of Design for the past five years, will give a concert for school children with Yo-Yo Ma at the RISD auditorium March 4. Then Ma and his fellow musicians will launch their national tour in a PPAC concert March 6. Tickets for the 8 p.m. performance range from $79 to $37. Kathleen Pletcher, head of FirstWorks, said the March 6 concert marks the first time the series has held events on a year-round basis. Normally FirstWorks holds its offerings in the fall. Oh God people.... I saw this YO-YO concert in 2008.... Please do yourself a favor and save your money.... It was more like Yawn Yawn. I could see charging a 5 or 10 dollar fee but 70 or 80 bucks for that????? with the way that things are now with money the State and Cities I cant believe someone could charge that much and feel ok with it. Like I said I was there saw it... by the way the coke bottle that hit the girl in the face and later the boy who threw it out the window meets her later in life...... ummmm yeah like you couldn't see that one coming. If your going to charge that kind of money there better be some pole dancing.....
