WOONSOCKET, RI (AP) -- Woonsocket's mayor has agreed to settle ethics violations and pay a $2,500 fine for leasing four motorcycles for the city police department from her son-in-law's business. The Rhode Island Ethics Commission on Tuesday found Mayor Susan Menard entered into a contract without public notice or subsequent public disclosure. But the commission dismissed allegations that she had a conflict of interest and used her public office to obtain financial gain. Menard denied the allegations for months but yesterday told WPRI-TV she is "angry" with herself for not disclosing the connection. Her lawyer says Menard never directed police to lease from her son-in-law's dealership, but just asked department officials to call and inquire about prices. -- The Associated Press with information from WPRI-TV |
