PROVIDENCE -- A Smithfield man is scheduled to be arraigned today in Superior Court on felony assault and disorderly conduct charges after he and two others allegedly demanded marijuana from an acquaintance last summer. The police said Richard Lynch, 23, of 12 Gladstone St., and two companions, Justin Girard, 25, and Christina Dellatorre, 20, confronted an acquaintance near North Providence's former Cher's restaurant at 86 Waterman Ave. on July 14 and demanded that he give them marijuana in exchange for some pills they had allegedly given him earlier in the night. The victim, whose name was not disclosed, told the police that Lynch got out of the car and allegedly struck him in the head and back with a stick, while Girard punched him in the face and stomach. Girard was found guilty in July and given a one-year suspended sentence with one year probation on a simple assault charge and six-month suspended sentence with six months probation on the disorderly conduct charge. A no-contact order was entered. Dellatorre entered a no-contest plea to a simple assault charge. The case was filed for a year, which means the case will be dismissed if she doesn't get into any legal trouble during that time. The judge ordered her to pay restitution and go to substance abuse counseling. A no-contact order was also entered. -- With Journal archival reports |
