PROVIDENCE, R.I. -- Seven local students are being recognized as "College Crusade All-Stars" for 2008. The students are:
To become a College Crusade All-Star, each student had to earn a GPA of 85 or better for all four quarters of 2007-2008, have perfect school attendance, and have high participation in College Crusade programs for the year. The College Crusade of Rhode Island is a nonprofit organization that offers college-readiness and scholarship programs for middle school and high school students in low-income urban school districts. It serves approximately 3,800 students per year. Students are eligible to receive up to four years of college scholarships in addition to mentoring. Since 2001, The College Crusade has awarded more than $18 million in college scholarships to more than 2,500 graduates from Rhode Island high schools. Funding for The College Crusade comes from a federal grant from the U.S. Department of Education's GEAR UP program, the State of Rhode Island, and private corporations, foundations, and individuals. |
