TAUNTON, Mass. -- A Little Compton man charged with killing a West Warwick woman while driving drunk is being held on $15,000 cash bail. Roger West, 25, of Little Compton, was arrested Saturday on charges of vehicular homicide, driving under the influence of alcohol, operating to endanger, and speeding in connection with a two-car crash on Route 195 in Seekonk at about 2:45 a.m. The Massachusetts State Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that West was traveling east on Route 195 near the Seekonk weigh station when his 2007 Dodge Charger struck a 1996 Toyota from behind. The Toyota, which appeared to have been on the left lane of the highway, was not moving at the time, the police said. The exact location of the car -- on or off the highway -- and why it was not moving are under investigation, the police said. The Toyota's driver, 27-year-old Carrie Geraci of West Warwick, was pronounced dead at the scene. West suffered minor injuries and was taken to Charlton Memorial Hospital in Fall River, where he was treated and released into police custody. Two passengers traveling with West, 24-year-old Lee Pacheco and 20-year-old Courtney Pereira, both of Fall River, suffered minor injuries and were taken to Rhode Island Hospital. -- With reports from Journal staff writer Tatiana Pina |
