CRANSTON -- The Rhode Island National Guard has moved up tomorrow's departure of 42 members of the 282nd Combat Communications Squadron because a storm is expected to drop five to 10 inches of snow on the region tomorrow afternoon. The guardsmen are based at the North Smithfield Air National Guard Station and will redeploy overseas to support Operations Enduring Freedom, in Afghanistan, and Iraqi Freedom, in Iraq. A ceremony will be held in Building P-8 at 9 a.m., and the guardsmen will deploy at 11 a.m. The ceremony is open to the public. The guardsmen were initially scheduled to leave in the afternoon. The 282nd Communications Squadron's mission is to install, operate and maintain combat ready equipment and personnel packages, to provide deployable communications and information capability in support of the Air Force Joint Forces Air Component Commander and the Air Force Forces commander. Unit members will be assigned to Air Expeditionary Wings in Iraq, Afghanistan, and Qatar for at least 120 days. |
