By Katherine Gregg Governor Carcieri has now officially notified legislative leaders that he is not going to make today's legal deadline for submitting his state budget proposal for the year that begins July 1. Under state law, the governor is required to present his tax-and-spending plans by the third Thursday in January. Late yesterday, however, Republican Carcieri sent the General Assembly's Democratic leaders a letter in which he "respectfully'' requested an extension until Tuesday, Feburary 10 at the latest. "Thank you for your consideration and for your continued work on behalf of the people of Rhode island,'' he wrote. While lawmakers were unavailable to comment on his not unexpected request, they are unlikely to object, having just started hearings this week on Carcieri's $357-million deficit-cutting plan for this year. Excuse Me... But it's Governor Carcieri not Republican Carcieri as you so dis-"RESPECTFULLY" refered to him in the 3rd sentence in your story. If you wanted to indicate his party affiliation, you should have put; Gov. Carcieri, (R).
Also; why is this on the BREAKING NEWS BLOG anyway? Your last sentence indicates (through a double negative) that this was Expected.

If Carcieri was a Democrat, that word wouldn't have even made it into the story.
