Three Providence police lieutenants who were hailed as "incorruptible" and "natural leaders" were promoted to captain this morning in a ceremony at the Providence Public Safety Complex.

Police Chief Dean M. Esserman, who attached those descriptors, swore in the trio: James F. Desmarais, Timothy M. Lee and Thomas A. Verdi. And relatives pinned their badges on their uniforms.

Desmarais, 46, has been commander of the Bureau of Criminal Identification; Lee, 42, has been serving in the accreditation unit in the Administrative Division and is a former member of the Warwick City Council; and Verdi, 44, has been commander of the Bureau of Narcotics and Organized Crime and is a gubernatorial appointee to the Rhode Island Parole Board.

New duties may be in order for one, two or all three of them, but Esserman said he is not ready to announce changes in assignments.

Isn't it interesting that the Chief used the word incorruptible when describing these 3 oficers? I have no doubt that they are,but still, when has anyone used that word when making promotions. It makes one wonder if there are those who are corruptible on the force and if the Chief knows who they are.
