SOUTH KINGSTOWN -- Santa and his elves will just have to wait a week. The holiday Luminary Winter Stroll down Main Street in the historic Wakefield village has been postponed until Dec. 18, at the same time, from 5-8:30 p.m., organizers said today. Forecast of a downpour tomorrow makes it nearly impossible to light luminaries -- bags holding candles filled with sand -- as well as get the bonfires going along the Saugatuckett River, said Judith Ross-McNab, coordinator for the Historic Wakefield Village Downtown Merchants Association who is sponsoring the event. McNab is now hoping for snow. Any questions, feel free to call her at 783-7202. -- Journal staff writer Lisa Vernon-Sparks |
