The newest Iway ramp is slated to open to traffic Saturday morning. This morning you'll see plenty of foot traffic as officials cut the ceremonial ribbon. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held at the new southbound exit 20 ramp at 10 a.m. The new ramp can be accessed from Plain and Point streets in Providence, according to a state Department of Transportation news release. The ramp at exit 20, which will carry traffic from Route 95 south to Route 195 east, will now be located on the highway's right side. The current left-hand exit for old Route 195 east will close at the same time, as will access to old Route 195 exits 1 (Downtown) and 2 (Wickenden Street). The DOT said it will also open the fifth lane of the east span of the Washington Bridge today -- which the ribbon-cutting will also highlight. An on-ramp from Plain Street to Route 195 east is scheduled to open Saturday. The ramp will replace the Friendship Street on-ramp, which the DOT closed in May. CommentsLeave a comment |

I hope Don & his cronies all 'pay the new toll' when they arrive and leave the ceremony!

Maybe they could cancel the "ceremony" and put the money towards medicaid, you know something people can use instead of pomp and circumstance. Or even better DOT could use the money towards repairing some of our bridges. What an idea!
