CRANSTON (AP) -- U.S. Senator Jack Reed is set to bestow the Purple Heart medal posthumously to a Vietnam War veteran. Domenic Gerard Penardo served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. Reed is presenting the award to Penardo's wife Friday afternoon in his office. Penardo was born in Providence. He was a Private First Class when he was wounded by enemy action in Vietnam. He previously received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with one Bronze Star, a sharpshooter badge and other military honors. Reed is a West Point graduate and a member of the Armed Services Committee. |
