PROVIDENCE -- Today is Rosa Parks Human Rights Day. And to honor it, the Rhode Island Rosa Parks Human Rights Day Committee will hold a demonstartion on Broad Street (across from Crossroads Rhode Island) at 3:30 p.m. This year is the 53rd anniversary of her famous act of civil disobedience that began the historic Montgomery bus boycott. While strides have been made on civil right issues, committee members said, the economic disparity remains. "Rosa Parks fought against institutionalized racial inequality; in her name, we will fight against the economic hardship that disproportionately affects minority communities," committee members wrote. |
