Rhode Island's law enforcement community is trying to brighten Christmas for the state's homeless children by giving gifts to homeless kids. The Rhode Island State Police, the Providence police, the Rhode Island Police Chiefs' Association and Crossroads Rhode Island will kick off the Kids, Cops & Christmas Program at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhode Island State House. Law enforcement officers from across the state will bring unwrapped gifts to the event, which will be held at the Christmas tree in the State House rotunda. The police say their goal is to brighten Christmas for the children and to show them that police officers are their friends and are there to help. Crossroads Rhode Island provides services for the homeless, including crisis intervention, emergency shelter, housing, and vocational services. |
