BOURNE, Mass. (AP) -- Family members and neighbors have identified the two people who died in a Christmas Eve house fire in Bourne as a couple in their 70s who had been married for 56 years. Leo Gagnon, 77, and his wife Marion, 74, were pulled from the home Wednesday and taken to a hospital, where they were pronounced dead. State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said the blaze was reported about 9:30 p.m. Leo Gagnon's brother, Rene Gagnon of Westport, told the Boston Herald the couple got married in a quick and inexpensive affair at a Howard Johnson's in December 1952 because his brother was in the Air Force and about to ship off to the Korean War. Coan said the blaze remains under investigation but appears to be accidental. |
