By Felice Freyer Lifespan announced this morning that Dr. Frank W. Sellke, the former chief of cardiothoracic surgery and research at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, is the new chief of cardiothoracic surgery for Rhode Island and Miriam Hospitals. The hospital group is touting Sellke's arrival from a Harvard-affiliated hospital as a "significant milestone for Lifespan." Its announcement says he is "nationally and internationally acclaimed" for his clinical skills and research. He is a professor at Harvard Medical School. But Sellke is no stranger to Rhode Island. He helped Landmark Medical Center, in Woonsocket, launch its heart surgery program in 2005, over the strenuous objections of Lifespan. The program shut down earlier this year because of a shortage of patients. |
