Cranston had one voluntary evacuation this morning at a house on Fletcher Avenue that was surrounded by water from the Pocasset River, said Fire Chief James B. Gumbley. The city closed a portion of Fletcher Avenue and also closed Natick Avenue at Comfort Drive, which saw flooding from the Pawtuxet River, Gumbley said. In both cases, some people tried to drive through flooded areas and became stranded. Gumbley said motorists should turn around if the road is under water. -- Journal staff writer Randal Edgar |
