Could it be a sign that any inferiority complex Rhode Islanders may hold toward the clearing of the state's roads --compared to the clearing of neighboring states's roads -- is out of date? Sure there were near white-out conditions in the air, and it may be anecdotal, but a Journal reporter who took Route 295 through North Smithfield and Lincoln this afternoon encountered three lanes open and a speed of about 40 miles per hour. When he got into Massachusetts on the same highway, it was down to two lanes and the speed hovered around 30 miles per hour. -- With reports from Journal staff writer Tom Mooney CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. Not on RT 95 South from the MA line to RT 10 North. Roads had 2 inches of snow with only clearing made by tire treads.

MA roads are terrible. I left work in Brockton at 12:30 and didn't get to Somerset until 2:30. Route 24 South was not even plowed or sanded, there were "white -out" conditions. Didn't see a sander or snow plow until exit 8, all the way from exit 18. This is a disgrace, where are our taxpayers dollaGKVA67rs being spent!! When I reached Somerset, route 6 wasn't even plowed!

I just drove from the East Bay to West Bay via 195 and 95. Believe it or not 195 improved considerably once over the RI line, and 195 through downtown was almost bare pavement. 95 south was also well-done until the Turber's curve. 95 north did not look like it had been done in a while.
The worst patch on my whole trip was the merging lanes on 95 South between the onramp from Jefferson Blvd and the offramp to Route 37. Not plowed at ALL.
