By Amanda Milkovits Attention drivers who've parked on the streets in Providence: You had until 2 p.m. to move your car before it's towed. A city-wide parking ban went into effect at 9 this morning, and police began leaving $100 tickets on the windshields of parked vehicles left on the streets. City officials announced the parking ban yesterday afternoon. That pricey ticket will lead to more costs this afternoon and evening, when police will call out 14 different tow companies to remove the vehicles so the plows can get through. Snow was beginning to fall in Wickford this afternoon, when Providence police Sgt. Paul Zienowicz said he was getting ready to call the tow companies to get started. Vehicle owners will be charged a flat $78 tow fee and then another $24 when the vehicle is towed to a storage lot, he said. The vehicles' owners will be charged an additional $24 each day their vehicle is on the lot. If your vehicle is towed, plan on being at the Providence Public Safety Complex tomorrow, where starting at 7 a.m. police officers will be posted in the lobby to direct people to the tow yards holding their vehicles, Zienowicz said.
