PROVIDENCE -- A Burrillville man charged with stabbing to death a Smithfield man this summer is scheduled to appear in court today for a bail review. The police said Wanamaker apparently tried to get into an apartment at 11 Esmond St., Smithfield, that was occupied by Menard and Nicole Sherman, who was Wanamaker's former girlfriend. Menard and Sherman were allegedly awakened by "something rustling at the screen," according to the police. The two went outside to investigate and confronted Wanamaker, who was dressed in "dark clothing." A confrontation erupted during which Wanamaker was stabbed three times, the police said. Wanamaker was found lying in a pool of blood in the early morning hours of Aug. 15 after a 911 call brought firefighters and police officers to a parking lot behind the East Smithfield Neighborhood Center at 7 Esmond St. He was pronounced dead by an official from the state medical examiner's office. -- With Journal archival reports |
