After high winds and rain packed a wallop, some 2,509 Rhode Island customers were without electrical power as of about 5 p.m., down from about 7,600 in the early afternoon, a National Grid spokesman said.

"We are going to be working overnight to get these customers back up," said spokesman David Graves. "It looks like it could be tomorrow at some point" that all customers' power will be restored.

As of 5 p.m., communities with the largest share of power failures were:

Coventry: 737

Exeter: about 400

Warwick: 330

Cumberland: 185

Scituate: 160

Smithfield: 150

Foster: 134
