A jack-knifed truck on Route 95 south in eastern Connecticut has shut down the highway in the exits 90-93 area -- from Mystic to the Rhode Island line -- according to Connecticut State Police. Two other vehicles were apparently involved in the accident and injuries may have occurred, according to state police Sgt. Chris Johnson. The call reporting the accident came in at 10:48 a.m. State Police expect the highway will reopen at 2 p.m. Rhode Island's traffic cameras on Route 95 in South County showed few cars on the highway -- and a highway covered with more than a thick frosting of snow. The National Weather Service's latest statement, sent just before noon, says a winter storm is "pounding southern New England." At 11:50 a.m., the weather service's radar and observations found a band of heavy snow has moved into Providence county, with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour.
