A Burrillville man who is accused of stabbing to death Kenneth J. Wanamaker, of Smithfield, in August was indicted on a second-degree murder charge today. A Providence County grand jury handed up the indictment naming Aaron Menard, 18, of 25 Darcy Lane on the murder count, according to a news release from Attorney General Patrick C. Lynch's office. Arraignment is slated for Dec. 17. The police have said that Wanamaker, 26, of 2 Hill St., Smithfield, was found lying in a pool of blood on the early morning of Aug. 15 after a 911 call brought Smithfield firefighters and police to a parking area behind East Smithfield Neighborhood Center at 7 Esmond St. The Journal reported in August that police said Wanamaker apparently tried to get into an 11 Esmond St. apartment that was occupied by Menard and Nicole Sherman, who was Wanamaker's former girlfriend. The police have said the couple had been awakened by a rustling sound at the screen, that the pair went outside to investigate, and confronted Wanamaker, who wore dark clothing. A confrontation followed and, according to the police, Wanamaker was stabbed three times and could not be revived by rescue workers. -- projo.com staff writer Michael P.
