PROVIDENCE -- A sign being erected for the state Department of Transportation collapsed this morning, injuring one of the workers. Watch the video

The worker was struck by one of the wooden posts holding up the sign when it broke while the sign was being set in place.

He was treated for his injuries but was apparently not seriously hurt, the DOT said. The worker, who was not identified, works for Road Safe Traffic Systems, or Avon, Mass., a subcontractor for Cardi Corp. Avon would not comment.

The sign will help direct traffic next month when the DOT opens a new ramp to carry southbound traffic on Route 95 to a new section of Route 195 eastbound.
