SCITUATE -- A team of assessors from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), will arrive in Rhode Island Saturday to assess the Rhode Island State Police's policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services.

The review is the final step in the State Police's re-accreditation process, Col. Brendan P. Doherty announced today in a prepared statement.

The Rhode Island State Police was first accredited in November 1994. Accreditation is for three years.

As part of the review, the public can comment on the State Police's compliance with the CALEA's standards by calling (401) 444-1043 on Dec. 15 from 1 to 4 p.m. or write to Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. 10306 Eaton Park Place, Suite 320, Fairfax, Virginia 22030-2201.

Copies of the standards are available at State Police Headquarters. The contact person is Lt. Wilfred K. Hill, the division's accreditation manager. Hill can be reached at (401) 444-1016.

The Rhode Island State Police review team will include Col. Tim Hazlette (retired) of the Kentucky State Police, Nancy G. Maiden of Virginia State Police, and Capt. Therron J. Phipps of the Greensboro, North Carolina Police Department.
