PROVIDENCE -- A repeat rapist was sentenced to 40 years in prison after he pleaded guilty today to four counts of first-degree sexual assault and a fifth count of breaking and entering.

Under the terms of the sentence, Gary P. LaMountain is to receive sex offender counseling and register as a sex offender when he is releases. A no-contact order was entered prohibiting LaMountain from having any contact with the victim.

La Mountain has been held without bail at the ACI since his arrest in August 2007. As a violator of his probation, he is serving a 15-year sentence concurrent with the sentence imposed today.

LaMountain broke into a Cumberland woman's home on Middle Street in 2007, raped her and also forced her to perform oral sex, threatening to snap her neck if she refused, a prosecutor told Superior Court Judge Joseph F. Rodgers Jr.

Previously, prosecutors had asked the court to impose a life prison sentence on LaMountain if he was convicted of the charges, Rodgers said.

LaMountain was 37 at the time of his arrest last year. Just months before, he had been released from the Adult Correctional Institutions after serving three years for two counts of first-degree sexual assault and other offenses.

Rodgers decided to sentence LaMountain to four 40-year prison terms, to run concurrently, for the first-degree sexual assault charges. He sentenced LaMountain to a 10-year prison term, also to run concurrently, for breaking and entering.

Beautiful. All his sentences are served as one, including the 15 years (which is rendered moot) for violating probation. So when will this vicious
repeat sexual offender and all-around piece of garbage be released to roam among real people again?

And why?
