| Two armed men invade home in Providence's Mt. Pleasant »
PROVIDENCE -- Two police officers have testified that a man charged with killing his girlfriend's young nephew showed no emotion after the attack and tried to blame the babysitter. The two Woonsocket officers testified in a pretrial hearing today for Gilbert Delestre, who is charged with murder and conspiracy in the October 2004 beating death of 3-year-old Thomas "T.J.'' Wright. The hearing today was on whether statements Delestre made to the police before his arrest can be used at trial, which begins next week in Providence County Superior Court. Two officers who arrived at the scene said they spoke to Delestre without reading him his rights because they did not initially consider him a suspect. Delestre's ex-girlfriend, Katherine Bunnell, was also charged and was convicted in May of second-degree murder. |
