By Greg Smith PROVIDENCE -- City police detectives are investigating a driveby shooting last night in which a passenger in a car was wounded by a shot fired from another car. Chad Thompson, 22, of 167 Briggs St., Providence, was grazed in the back by a bullet. He was treated and released from Rhode Island Hospital, according to Detective Lt. Paul Campbell. The reason for the attack on the car, which had four occupants, is unclear, Campbell said. "We're still talking to them, and it's under investigation," he said. Three shots were fired as the car traveled on Manton Avenue, in the vicinity of Amherst and Kossuth streets, in Olneyville, at about 8:30 p.m., according to Campbell. All three projectiles apparently pierced the passenger compartment; all three were recovered. The shooter's car escaped in the direction of Atwells Avenue. |
