By Barbara Polichetti CRANSTON -- The counting of more than 1,800 mail ballots in Cranston did not change any election results, with mayor-elect Republican Allan Fung still facing a first term with an all-Democrat City Council. One of the closest races in the city that might have changed with today's count was the Ward 5 City Council contest between incumbent Democrat Richard Santamaria Jr. and Republican challenger Donald McCutcheon. Democrats claimed victory for Santamaria on election night, although his lead was less than 500 votes. According to the local Board of Canvassers today, the mail ballot count did not change the results of that race or any other contests in the city. CORRECTION: An earlier version of this post incorrectly identified the Ward number in the Santamaria-McCutcheon contest. |
