PROVIDENCE -- With the state facing dramatic budget deficits, members of the state House Finance Committee will meet at 1 p.m. today to discuss the 2008 and 2009 budgets. The meeting will be in room 35 (Trainor Hearing Room) in the State House. The state is facing an estimated $357-million budget deficit this fiscal year and an estimated $450-million gap in the next fiscal year. The House Finance Committee will meet again next week. Monday, committee members are expected to continue the discussion on the current budget expenditures and next year's budget. Tuesday, committee members are expected to discuss overruns and failed initiatives: budget management, monitoring and accountability. And Wednesday, committee members are expected to consider low cost/no cost options for recession relief. |
