PROVIDENCE -- Democratic lawmakers are expected to hold an open caucus this afternoon to replace Senate President Joseph Montalbano, who was unseated in Tuesday's election. Senate Majority Leader Teresa Paiva-Weed is expected to receive her party's endorsement, making her the front-runner to take over the Senate presidency. The entire Senate will officially elect the new president when lawmakers reconvene in January. If elected, Paiva-Week would become the first female Senate president. Democrats are also expected to endorse a new majority leader to replace Paiva-Weed, if she should become the new president, and other party leadership changes. The caucus will convene at 5 p.m. in the State House. -- With reports from the Associated Press. CommentsLeave a comment |

Caucus? It will be more like a cabal. Might go something like this...."Welkome Komrades to our 2008 Politburo meeting. We will annoint Komrade Paiva Weed, as she has been a loyal party member, adhering to the party line, and voting 100% Kommunist. And how about our voters? (Laughs and guffaws heard around the room)These lemmings time and time again, ignore how we've created the state in our own image, and keep reelecting us, hahahahahahahahahahahaha. It will be a good future, and long live Komrade Lenin!!!"

Give me a break!
Paiva-Weed as Senate President?
This woman doesn't have a clue as to what it's like in the real world.
She will take the state over the edge into the abyss.
She has been a major part of the problem on Smith Hill and now the rest of the idiots up there are going to continue the past practice of burying their heads in the sand.
Thomas Wilson Dorr, where are you when we need you?

Sounds like a minority opinion of the past election. It is time to move on and try to get our existing legislators to do our bidding. This state has too many problems to just keep throwing trash like this up. We have real problems that need real solutions. Jobs... Revenue.... One can only hope that the immigration issue can be resolved this session so that Rhode Islanders get the benefits, not illegal residents who have flocked to Rhode Island due to the present policies.

Our esteemed legislators are acting like the buffoons that they are and are making Rhode Island the laughing stock of the nation. Not enough of the incumbents were thrown out in the last election. Now with the Dems in TOTAL control, the unions, the politicos and the special interests will have their unhindered way with our pockets.

If we continue to allow morons the right to vote, this is the end result. Add on Kennedy, Reed, Bonnie Fwank and Obama. Oh yeah, and the possibility of Al Franken in Minnesota? They must be eating clam cakes out there, as well.
