CRANSTON -- The police today said 86-year-old Luetta Burnham, of Cranston, was the woman who died after being struck by a vehicle as she was crossing Cranston's busy Reservoir Avenue yesterday. The Cranston Police Accident Reconstruction Team is investigating the incident. It happened at about 4:48 PM. Burnham attempted to cross four traffic lanes in the area of 1275 Reservoir Ave. She was walking from the road's east side when a vehicle traveling in the north-bound center lane hit her, according to the police news release. She was treated on scene by Cranston Fire/Rescue and transported to Rhode Island Hospital in Providence, where she died from her injuries, the police said. The driver, whom the police are not identifying until the investigation is finished, was also taken to Rhode Island Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. -- projo.com staff writer Michael P.
