BRISTOL -- The man found dead inside a burning pickup truck early Monday killed himself with a shotgun before the fire started, the police said today. It appears that the gunshot fired by Gregory Gaulin, 36, caused the fire inside his GMC Silverado, according to Lt. Steven Contente. Police officers and rescue workers were called at 3:44 a.m. to Gaulin's home, at 17 Wilson St., where they found the truck engulfed in flames. The fire was quickly extinguished and did not spread from the vehicle. Gaulin's body was identified later that day by the state medical examiner's office but his name was not released until today because of difficulty in notifying next of kin, Contente said. A 63-year-old volunteer firefighter died at home while preparing to respond to the fire. Wayne Brown suffered an apparent heart attack and was found dead in the doorway of his home. |
