BARRINGTON -- Friends and family of Jonathan Converse are scheduled to gather on Barrington Beach beginning at 6 tonight for a memorial campfire marking the one-year anniversary of his death. Converse, then a junior at Barrington High School, was killed on New Meadow Road last Nov. 5. He was a passenger in a car driven by an intoxicated classmate, who slammed the vehicle into a tree. It was one of a series of alcohol-related incidents that racked the town last year. The campfire was suggested by students. Police have had extra patrols to try to discourage teens from using alcohol to mark the anniversary. -- Journal staff writer C. Eugene Emery Jr. |
