WARWICK -- Some 200 people showed up this morning at 8 for what they thought was the grand opening of the first Rhode Island Trader Joe's market ... only, the opening starts at 9 a.m. A store manager tried to pacify the crowd, apologizing for the mix-up. The manager said company representatives had been misquoted by the media. The grand opening, he said, had been scheduled for 9 a.m. with refreshments being served at 8 a.m. An assortment of refreshments were available indeed at 8 a.m. -- Staff reports CommentsLeave a commentPlease be civil. I am a former Rhode Islander now living in California where we have Trader Joe's stores everywhere. They're always crowded with enthusiatic customers. I, myself, frequent TJs.
This is a great gain for Rhode Island. Let's hope for additional stores in the future.

I'm a native Rhode Islander, recently returned after 25 years away. The city we were living in had several Trader Joe's - and they're wonderful grocery stores esp for their frozen convenience foods.
I agree, this is a boon, a gain for RI and I hope TJs makes a good go of it!!

For any Rhode Islander who is not sure yet what a Trader Joe's is like inside - think a combination of Ocean State Job Lot and Whole Foods. Great food, great prices. Any way we can get some twobuckchuck there?

It's great to see Trader Joe's open in RI.
I was happy to see Whole Foods here when I moved back from CA, but Whole Foods Cranston is pretty disappointing compared Whole Foods in CA - inferior quality food in the deli, loud background music, less green ex: containers at the deli areas.
So it's a pleasure to see an inexpensive good food green store like Trader Joe's open.

I am a former Rhody. I shop at Trader Joe's every week. The people of R.I. deserve such a great store. For all you wine drinkers..........try the "2 buck Chuck". It really is a fine wine. Enjoy shopping at one of the best stores in the country.
