Today's front page features a photograph of the Patriots celebrating a touchdown in their 41-7 win over the Broncos last night, a consumer story about some Rhode Islanders who regret locking into oil contracts this winter and the story about a teenager who was found dead in Norfolk, Mass.

No matter how you spin it, our oil prices still went up 20% from 2007. I guess the theory is that if you scare people into believing the price will rise to over $4 a gallon, they will be relieved when it only goes from 277.3 to 326.8 in a year's time.

We lowered our thermostat to 55 last year. I guess we can tough it out to 50 this year. The good news is that many viruses do not thrive at that low a temperature, so this may be our healthiest year yet.
