TIVERTON -- A power company has identified Tiverton as a prime location for energy-producing wind turbines. Keith Peltzman, vice president of New York-based Allco Renewable Energy Group Ltd., says his company would like to explore the possibility of placing wind turbines at the landfill at the south end of town. Land near the high school and in the town's industrial park are other possible locations. Peltzman says the next step is to collect wind data and determine the town's energy consumption. Town councilor Brian Medeiros says he will propose to the council at its meeting today that the potential sites identified by Allco be tested for viability on the understanding that town is under no financial obligation. -- The Associated Press (Information from The Newport Daily News) |
