SWANSEA, Mass. -- The police are looking for a suspect who broke into a woman's Lafayette Street house and sliced her neck with a knife yesterday. The Swansea police received a 911 call, redirected by the Massachusetts State Police, from the woman reporting a man had broken in to the residence, a struggle followed and he stabbed her, according to a news release. The police said the suspect was described as white, in his late 30s, about 5-foot-8, thin-to-medium build, with dark hair and wearing a blue or black crew-neck sweat shirt and jeans. A nearby gas station's employees told the police a person matching the description rode a bicycle to the station, tried calling a cab and then left the area. Swansea and state police searched the Ocean Grove section but did not find a suspect. Detectives found the male who was on the bicycle but determined he was not involved after speaking with him. The police did not identify the woman and her condition was not known. -- projo.com staff writer Michael P. McKinney |
