The restored Abraham Lincoln statue at Roger Williams Park in Providence was rededicated today during a ceremony attended by Governor Carcieri, Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline and Supreme Court Chief Justice Frank Williams. The rededication coincides with the 50th anniversary of the original dedication of the 12-foot bronze statue, which was designed by the late Rhode Island School of Design professor Gilbert Franklin. The ceremony this morning featured Civil War-era music by the Providence Brigade Band and served as a history lesson for 4th grade students from the Broad Street Elementary School.
